MUST PICK A SIDE.

Because I was instructed that I MUST pick a side on whether or not I agree that raising the minimum wage up to $15.00 would be more beneficial or not, I honestly believe that it would not be more beneficial to do so. I believe that it would be silly to raise the minimum wage up to $15. "As I say, this is simply an absurd demand. There would be very large unemployment effects from such a raise meaning that many people would simply lose their jobs." (Tim Worstall, Forbes.com) I agree with Worstall. Because businesses would have to raise the amounts they pay, they would have to take away jobs, and only keep the people that they need and that are the most skilled of their workers. This would cause people to lose their jobs, therefore decreasing the amount of people with jobs and raising the poverty line. "The proposal for a $15 an hour minimum wage will make the minimum wage 90% of the median hourly wage: at which point we know very well that we’ll be harming low income workers, not aiding them." (Tim Worstall, Forbes.com)

Also, this could possible affect me at my age. "When the government increases the minimum wage, it’s more expensive to hire first-timers. According to David Neumark and J.M. Salas, University of California economists, and William Wascher of the Federal Reserve Board, “minimum wages tend to reduce employment among teenagers." (Rockland Times)

Also, better research has shown that raising the minimum wage would only hurt the economy rather than help. "Perhaps this is understandable — proponents don’t have many good studies to hang their hats on. The vast majority of economic research (including 85 percent of the best studies from the last two decades) points to job losses rather than job gains after a minimum-wage hike."(epionlineine.org)

lalalalalalala (:

STOCK: A stock is a share of a company. You can use it to make money, so when the stock value goes up that's when you make your money, and when the stock value goes down you lose money.
DIVIDEND: I'm not actually sure what a dividend is. But I think is has to do with the company paying the shareholder for some reason.
TRADE: A trade is when you buy a stock and only plan to keep it for a short amount of time. A trade doesn't generally make as great of a value as investments, but trades are normally to buy when you know that there is going to be a drastic increase in value due to a special event or something, then you get rid of the stock after you make the money you were expecting, or in some cases more or less.
CATALYST: A catalyst is anything that can affect a stock either positively or negatively. You mostly use them to make money in the stock market, but it can either increase or decrease the values of your stocks depending on the circumstances.

NINE CENTS

The total value of one cup of my lemonade is nine cents.

VARIABLES:
number of lemons in a pitcher
cups of sugar in a pitcher
number of ice cubes in a cup
price you sell the cups for
number of people that walk by your stand
weather

CONSTANTS:
where you are selling the lemonade
cups per pitcher

PERISHABLES:
lemons
ice
sugar

What I got from it: I learned of the importance of variables, constants, and perishables and there roles in being successful in the lemonade stand game. And those same things are important in having a successful businesses. I learned that it isn't very easy to please everybody, and that there is a lot that plays into having a business that I hadn't ever thought of before.

GROSS AND NET.

MY GROSS SALARY: $150,000.
Assuming that I get paid monthly, I would get $12,500 a month. The federal tax is 28% for $142,700-$217,450, and I fall into that category so that means I would subtract $3,500 which equals $9,000 a month. Plus, Utah requires us to pay state tax, which is 5%. That takes out another $625 every month, which brings it down to $8,375 a month. Then when you take out social security, which is 6.2%. That brings me down to 7,600 a month. And lastly, Medicare costs 1.45 % which brings me down to $7443.75 a month. And if you multiply that by 12....I will have $89,325 as my net.

MY NET: $89,325

October on to NOVEMBER. (20%)

Time is definitely going by so fast this semester. For October, we have made posters to go by the bins in the commons and posters with facts on them that will hopefully make students realize what they would be doing and what they would be helping if they recycle. So November we are planning on getting the bins out to see if we get good results. If so we will make a plan on how we are going to get the plastic over to the recycling place. We are going to get some of our posters hung up and have some facts on recycling in the announcements. I think our biggest challenge will be to find a way to make as many students as we can to join in our efforts. It will take effort on our part to find ways to encourage the students.

BLACK JACK

Taking a step into the Free Enterprise classroom that Wednesday morning was like taking a step into huge puddle of mud without knowing what kinda of vicious creatures were living inside. I had NO clue what I was getting myself into by coming to class that day. I was instantly handed twelve navy blue and white poker chips. I had never before even held a poker chip in my hand, let alone twelve. how was I suppose to know what to do with them? I surprisingly caught on to the game, or what I thought was the game, pretty quickly by sitting out the first couple of rounds to observe the ways of the game. I guess I didn't fully understand the "secrets" of the game that Mr. Kapptie later explained to us. It was a good experience, and it was actually a lot of fun. I guess what I got from it though was to not get yourself into something that you don't know how to get out of...or play a game that you don't know how to play.

STOCKS.

I bought some microsoft stocks as a investment, knowing it's potential for going up soon in the future. It has proved itself this week by going up four dollars. I hope for this stock to continue to go up, but for a specific number, I would say that I hope for it to go up another two or more dollars in the next couple weeks. Microsoft keeps surprising its consumers with newly-improved software and applications that enable users to better enjoy activities related to entertainment, gaming, and even work. This has, and I believe will continue to help the stocks go up.

I also bought some apple stocks as a trade, knowing that they come out with new things constantly, and that another iPad is coming out soon. I will wait till after this iPad comes out, and the stock goes up a good amount, around 30-50 dollars, to sell this stock.

I vs T

When in the process of investing, your main goal is to invest in a portfolio of stocks that you are going to be in a long term relationship with and hope to gain money from over an extended period of time. Trading is, however, pretty much a short term relationship where you find stocks that will most likely go up in the next week or day, and buy them quickly and sell them.

CANDY GAMEEEEE

I walked up to my free enterprise class, expecting to just walk right in and take my usual seat in the classroom and listen to another long lecture about the government shutdown. When I arrived to the
door, I noticed that the two doors that were normally opened up to the classroom were shut and Mr. Kapptie was out in the hallway standing in front of the door telling all of his students to place their backpacks and other belongings against the wall in the hallway. Confused, I placed my backpack against the wall in the hallway and joined the other confused students of the class in a cluster infront of one of the doors.
Kapptie rose his voice in an effort to get everyone's attention. Once our large class began to silence themselves, Kapptie explained that once we are let into the classroom that we were to grab as many things as we can and to dedicate a specific spot in the classroom to all the things that you gathered. Not knowing what I was gathering and what I was about to walk into I waited for further instructions. He separated the class in half and had each half stand in front of the now cracked open doors. Kapptie disappeared into the room. We stood there waiting for his "okay" to go in. I didn't hear him say it, but he must have because everyone started to push and shove. I was pushed and shoved and twisted and turned around until I made it into the classroom. I struggled to escape the group of people, but when I did I came into the classroom where the floor was covered in a variety of different candies and Monopoly money, and other slips of paper. Displayed on the walls were videos that added unnecessary noise to the commotion that had already filled up the room. Once I saw all the others start grabbing for as much candy and money as they could I followed their example and did the same. I then dedicated a spot in the classroom for my candies and orginized my money from the lowest value to the greatest. I then orginized my candies, as I realized that we would be trading and trying to sell our candies, as well as buy candies off of others for reasonable prices, trying to end up with the greatest amount of money in the end. The smell and temperature in the room wasn't the greatest. Sweaty and stressed I tried to figure out how everything worked, which I did really figure out till towards the end of the game. I just pretty much ran around confused the first part of the game. But ended up with a decent price of over 2,000.

20% PROJECT update

Josie Brinkerhoff and I, Cydney Barrus, attend Free Enterprise during second period together and decided to work on a 20% project together. We have only had two days to actually work on this project due to tennis matches or regionals, but so far we have come up with the plan to get the students and teachers in our highschool to recycle plastic.
So far we have spoken with the lunch ladies about their opinions on lactic, and the foam trays that are given out at lunch. And we have planned out how we are going to carry out most of this plan. We are going to decorate bins with bright colors to bring attention to the bins  that people are going put there plastic in. We are going to have two in each pod and a couple in the lunch room. We are also going to make posters to bring attention to the recycling plan and to the bins.
By the end of this month we plan to have the bins done and the posters finished and hopefully put out for people to use.

Plans for after high school:

WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO DO AFTER HIGH SCHOOL?
My plans for after graduating fro Powell High School include leaving my home in Powell to go to college in Idaho at BYU and graduate there with a Bachelors. I plan on starting a family and that will be my TOP priority. I will be a stay at home mom until all my children are in school, then I plan on applying for elementary school teaching jobs.
Until I graduate from BYU with my Bachelors, I will spend that four years working in whatever job I can get that pays the best and will use most of that money to pay off my college funds and whatever else i need to pay for at that time and possibly work there or some other place until I am married to provide for myself. Once I am married and have kids, my husband and I will work out the money situation so I can stay home with our children.
For a car, a Volkswagon Beetle Coupe would be fabulous. This car has premium interior design, distinctive styling, a useful back seat and trunk, good highway cruiser, and turbocharged power. I don't know too much about cars, but I guess this would be my pick.
And lastly, I want to live in Salt Lake City, Utah. For and apartment if I have had children, a three bedroom two bathroom apartment would be a good start. The average rental price for this apartment is $975.
From my research I learned that with the money that I am realistically going to have once I graduate college, it will be difficult and possibly very stressful to keep up with the payments of a car and a living space and living needs, especially if I have started a family and need to provide for my children as well.
